McCLURE, Ill. Jackson Pilgrim Bunch, 94, McClure Route 1, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born Sept. 18, 1898, at McClure, son of Joseph and Nellie McRaven Bunch. His father was instrumental in obtaining the present Corps of Engineers levees at East Cape and McClure.
He and Mayme Leonard were married Aug. 16, 1923, in Paragould, Ark. She died Sept. 26, 1979.
Bunch was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, where he played football. He received a master's degree in science from the University of Iowa.
He taught chemistry, physics and math at schools in Cairo; Fornfelt, Mo.; Ava and McClure. He also coached high school basketball and baseball. He also served as principal at Ava, and at McClure from 1941-54.
Bunch was a member of Old St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, American Legion, Farm Bureau, Federal Housing Authority, and East Cape and McClure Levee Commission. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a son, William Bunch of McClure; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Msgr. Richard Rolwing will officiate, with burial in Lindsey Cemetery at McClure.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. today.
