Jack Wayne Taylor Sr., 87, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in McClure, Ill., son of Clifton and Cora Wilcher Taylor. He and Dorothy A. "Billie" Henson were married on April 11, 1942, at Cape Girardeau.

Taylor served in the U.S. Army as a staff seargeant in World War II. He received two Bronze Stars while serving in Europe and helped liberate the concentration camp at Dachau, Germany. He as a member of the VFW Post 3838 and a veteran of the 42nd "Rainbow" Division.

Taylor was a clerk in the Cape Girardeau post office for 34 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Maple United Methodist Church and the church Men's Club, and was an usher at the church. Taylor was a Meals on Wheels volunteer.

Loving survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherry L. Chernow of Ventura, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack W. Taylor Jr. and wife Melinda Taylor of Plano, Texas; a brother and sister-in-law, Bill "Slug" Taylor and wife Katie Taylor of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kerry Suhr and Matt Suhr of Oak Park, Ill., Kimberly Monroe and Dan Monroe of San Diego, Calif.; two great-grandsons, Aaron Suhr and Ryan Monroe.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Catherine Ann Taylor in 1943; five brothers; and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Jim Cooper will officiate, with burial in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorials may be made to the Maple United Methodist Church Building Fund.
