Jack Odom

MCCLURE, Ill. -- Jack Duane Odom, 52, of McClure, formerly of Marion and Murphysboro, Ill. died Monday, May 30, 2005, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.

He was born July 13, 1952, at Green Bay, Wis., son of Jackson DeForest Odom and Mary Caroline Hastings Odom.

Odom was a graduate of Marion High School and received a bachelor's degree in human services from SIU-Carbondale. He served 13 years in the Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. Odom was a member of AMVETs in Murphysboro and served as district commander division 3, 4 and 5. He was involved with the Mound City National Cemetery Preservation building in 1992 to 1994. Odom was the owner/ operator of Eagle Advantage in McClure.

Survivors include a stepfather, Leon Rich of West Frankfort, Ill.; a brother, Dale Odom of Elkville, Ill.; and a sister, Daina Thome of Creal Springs, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Graveside memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the National Cemetery in Mound City, with the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating and an AMVET Honor Guard.

Interment will follow, with full military honors given by members of the Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds, Ill.
