OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Lloyd "Jack" Miller, 87, of Olive Branch died at 4:51 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan, 8, 1926, at Dongola, Ill., son of Simeon and Inez Peeler Miller. He married Lucille Willis on Oct. 5, 1947.
Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, serving three and a half years in World War II and one year in the Korean War. Between tours, he was in the Navy Reserves.
After his military service, he began working at John Deere in East Moline, Ill. He retired in 1988 as an operating engineer from Local 537 in Rock Island, Ill. After retirement, Jack and Lucille relocated back to Southern Illinois and built their home on Horseshoe Lake, where Jack enjoyed fishing and raising his onions and prize tomatoes.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille; son, Jack L. Miller; granddaughter Rebecca Vonderheide; grandsons, William and Richard Miller; three great-grandchildren; and cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters: Glenn, Van, Roy, Cobie, Lester, Reba, George and Gilbert.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brent Gordon officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Mound City National Cemetery.
