JACK MATTHEWS JR.

SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Jack M. Matthews Jr. of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Calvin will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Matthews, 76, died Saturday, March 2, 1996, at his home.

He was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Sikeston, son of Jack M. and Elsie Sullivan Matthews Sr. He and Sallie Newton were married May 18, 1941.

Matthews had been a truck driver with ABF Truck Lines. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, David Matthews of Sikeston; six brothers, Lyman Matthews of Santa Maria, Calif., Reese Matthews of Vandalia, Ohio, John Matthews of Sikeston, Joe Matthews of Chillicothe, Ohio, James Matthews of McAllen, Texas, Larry Matthews of Dexter; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
