Irwin W. Bruce, 93, of Jackson passed away Friday, Oct. 2, 2020, at Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Sikeston, Missouri, the son of John H. and Priscilla M. Irwin Bruce. Irwin married Helen Aufdenberg Jan. 15, 1949, in Jackson. She passed away May 9, 1997.
Irwin was a veteran of World War II and Korea, having been inducted into the U.S. Army Nov. 7, 1945, and honorably discharged Dec. 3, 1946. He then entered the U.S. Air Force in January 1951 and was honorably discharged in September 1953. He worked as a mail carrier in Jackson for many years, retiring in 1987.
Irwin was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and a 50-year member of the U.S. Postal Service union. Irwin enjoyed bowling in the Jackson men's league up to the age of 89. His true joy in life was his family.
Loving survivors include sons, Gary (Barbara) Bruce of Whitewater and Rodney Bruce of Jackson; and grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Scott, Chris and Lindsey Bruce, and Greg and Roy Jennings.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, Helen Bruce, he was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Bruce; parents; five brothers; and a sister.
A private service will be held at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
