BELL CITY, Mo. -- Iris Lee Shumaker, 81, of Bell City passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. BELL CITY, Mo. -- Iris Lee Shumaker, 81, of Bell City passed away Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was the only child of George N. and Ina Henderson Oakley; beloved wife of Dale Shumaker of Bell City; dear mother of the late Jeane Dale Anthony; dear mother-in-law of Fred W. Anthony of Derby, Kan.; dear grandmother of Dani and Marc McIntosh of Bel Arie, Kan., and Dale and Heather Anthony of Edmond, Okla.; dear great-grandmother of Lauren Jeane and Grace Lynn Anthony of Edmond, Okla., and Julianna Morgan and Joseph McIntosh of Bel Arie.

Iris Lee and Dale were grateful to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in October 2004 at their home.

Iris Lee was born and grew up in Bell City. She was a graduate of Bell City High School and a lifelong supporter of the school. She was a graduate of the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1945. That same year she became a registered nurse.

Iris Lee worked at Missouri Delta Medical Center the year it opened. She then worked in Dr. A.D. Martins' office for 25 years. Later she set up in-home nursing programs in 18 counties operated by the Area Agency of Aging. She could always be called on to help anyone who was ill or needed help. Her greatest delight and joy was received from her grandchildren, their spouses and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of what her daughter and son-in-law became as well as the grandchildren and their spouses.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today.

Funeral is at 10 a.m. Monday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance, Mo. The Rev. Linda Zych will officiate. Interment will be in Morgan Memorial Park at Advance.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Stoddard County Children's Home.
