Irene Winston, 92, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, April 21, 2017.
She was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, to the late Ben and Mary Sones Shepard.
Irene worked for many years as accounts-receivable bookkeeper for the Gideon-Anderson Lumber Co.
She married Don Winston on Dec. 25, 1946; they were married 60 years. He was a decorated Marine in World War II.
Irene was a loyal, active and proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and an accomplished bridge player, including duplicate bridge. Irene was also an avid golf player and participated in many tournaments in Southeast Missouri and belonged to the SEMO Ladies Golf Association.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband in 2007; her son, Jon, in 1979; her parents; and three sisters, Mary Snow, Martha Ellis and Alma Jo Brown.
She is survived by extended family and many close friends, including Debra Joly and Mary Frances Werner-Luckey.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden, Missouri.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Stanfield Cemetery in Clarkton, Missouri. The Rev. Jeff Long, pastor of Abbey Road Christian Church in Cape Girardeau, will officiate.
