Irene Davis of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Oct. 27, 1919 at Arbor, Mo., daughter of Walter and Alice Adkison Hitt.
She and Homer C. Davis were married on Sept. 20, 1940, at Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Jan. 12, 1968.
She worked for First Baptist Church, where she was a member, as a church hostess for 30 years.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Toby and Judy Davis of Metropolis; three sisters, Marie Dooley of Chaffee, Lucille Friese of Cape Girardeau and Alice Henry of Perryville; a brother, Walter Hitt of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, the Rev. J.D. and Ashley Davis of Nashville, Tenn., and Crissy and Bobby Merideth of Louisville, Ky.; and one great-grandson, Robby Merideth of Louisville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Washie Hitt, Ben Hitt, Otha Hitt, Jake Hitt and Sam Hitt; and two sisters, Mildred Hitt and Dorothy Moore.
Friends may call at Ford & Sons Sprigg St. Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Revs. John Owen and S. S. Borum officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
