UNIONTOWN, Mo. -- Irene P. Brandes, 84, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Fountainbleau Lodge. Born Dec. 6, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, she was the daughter of Charles and Martha Lueders Kassel. On Nov. 14, 1940, she was married to Walter, "Cleve" Brandes. He died July 19, 1991...

UNIONTOWN, Mo. -- Irene P. Brandes, 84, died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at the Fountainbleau Lodge.

Born Dec. 6, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, she was the daughter of Charles and Martha Lueders Kassel.

On Nov. 14, 1940, she was married to Walter, "Cleve" Brandes. He died July 19, 1991.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Uniontown. She had worked at Uniontown Oil Co. as a waitress and cook and had also worked as a cook in the Oak Ridge School District. She retired in 1973.

Survivors include two sons, L.R. Brandes of Jackson, Mo., and Gary Brandes of Oak Ridge, Mo.; a brother, Walt Kassel of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; a sister, Shirley Peat of Nashville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Uniontown, followed by burial in the church cemetery.
