JACKSON -- Imogene Ford Abernathie, 93, of Jackson died Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996, at Deal Nursing Home in Jackson. She was born June 2, 1903, in Whitewater, daughter of Dr. Walter and Ada Lucretia Henry Ford. A graduate of College High School in Cape Girardeau, Southeast Missouri State University, University of Missouri Columbia and University of Illinois, she taught home economics in McClure, Ill., New Berlin, Ill., and Williamsville, Ill., for 42 years...

JACKSON -- Imogene Ford Abernathie, 93, of Jackson died Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996, at Deal Nursing Home in Jackson.

She was born June 2, 1903, in Whitewater, daughter of Dr. Walter and Ada Lucretia Henry Ford.

A graduate of College High School in Cape Girardeau, Southeast Missouri State University, University of Missouri Columbia and University of Illinois, she taught home economics in McClure, Ill., New Berlin, Ill., and Williamsville, Ill., for 42 years.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Retired Teachers in Illinois and Springfield, Ill., Garden Club.

She married William Abernathie on Aug. 24, 1935. He died Jan. 9, 1978.

She is survived by two nieces, Ruth Jean Lange of Jackson and Chloe Jane Gibbons of Shell Knob; and four nephews, E.W. Kassel of St. Louis and Jerry, Donald and Walter Joe Ford, all of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Drew Dietz officiating. Burial will be in the Cape County Memorial Park.
