Idella Ross, 96, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003.
She was born March 25, 1907, at Cape Girardeau, daughter of Harvey and Rosie Cato Ross.
Ross attended Lincoln School, later named John S. Cobb, in Cape Girardeau. She worked many years for the Finch family in Cape Girardeau. She attended the Hoover Center for several years until she began having health problems. Ross was a member of the Golden Age Club for many years.
Confessing Christ as her Lord and Savior, she was baptized in the Mississippi River and joined the Second Baptist Church under the late Rev. William Cole in 1916. She served many years on the usher board, attended church faithfully until she moved to St. Louis in January 2003. She lived with her niece, Veronica Hearon.
She leaves to cherish her memory a brother, W.H. Ross of Arizona; two nephews, Alex Ross of Danbury, Conn., and Paul Miller of Cape Girardeau; six nieces, Veronica Hearon and Janie Hearon of St. Louis, Mo., Joyce Johnson and Deborah Ross of Michigan City, Ind., Alice Sides of Houston, Texas, and Joy Jackson of Milwaukee, Wis.; two special friends, Helen Sterling and Adelbert Louis of Cape Girardeau; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the Second Baptist Church, Cape Girardeau; service will follow at the church with the Rev. Wiley Reed officiating.
Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
