ADVANCE, Mo. -- Ida Jean Scott, 60, of Advance died Friday, July 25, 2003, at her home. She was born Dec. 31, 1941, at Advance, Mo. daughter of Vera Knapheide and the late Joseph Tilley. ADVANCE, Mo. -- Ida Jean Scott, 60, of Advance died Friday, July 25, 2003, at her home.

She was born Dec. 31, 1941, at Advance, Mo. daughter of Vera Knapheide and the late Joseph Tilley.

Ida Jean was a 1959 graduate of Advance High School. She graduated in 1962 from Southeast Missouri State University, with a B.S. in education; she also received a master's degree in elementary education from the university in 1981. She taught elementary school for 38 years, most of which were taught at Advance. After retiring in 2002 she worked as the Advance Parents as Teachers educator. She was a member of the Advance United Methodist Church where she played piano for over 30 years.

Survivors include her mother, Vera Tilley of Advance; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Rae and Kevin Davied; a son, John Joseph Scott; two grandchildren, Sydney and Spencer Davied; her closest friends, Lois Vavek and Cecila Wilton, all of Advance; and two cousins, Jim and Pat Tilley of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her her father and an infant sister, Jean Ida.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Advance United Methodist Church. Jennie S. Williams will officiate, with burial in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

Memorial donations may be made to the Advance School Foundation.
