Ida T. Czarnikow Mitchell, 89, of Jackson was surrounded by her family when she passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 22, 1924, in Muldrow, Oklahoma, to George and Arvilla English Czarnikow.
She and Hughie Edwards were married in 1941. Five children were born to their union, Sharon, Gary, Linda, David and John.
She and Robert "Bob" Mitchell were married Jan. 23, 1957, in Oklahoma City. Two children were born to their union, Tammy and Robert. They had been married 30 years when Bob passed away May 26, 1987.
Ida was raised in eastern Oklahoma and was a former member of First Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She and Bob moved from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Jackson in 1960. She was a homemaker, but in later years worked at Chateau Girardeau Nursing Home and provided in-home care for the elderly. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include six children, Sharon (Don) Maker of Edmond, Oklahoma, Linda Dedeaux of Cape Girardeau, David (Cris) Edwards of Jackson, John (Lynette) Edwards of Owasso, Oklahoma, Tammy (Mike) Johnston of Whitewater and Robert Mitchell (Rhonda Houska) of St. Louis; a sister, Bonnie Wright of Broken Arrow; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Bob, she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Edwards; a great-grandson, Justin Miller; three sisters; a brother; and former husband, Hughie Edwards.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A funeral service will be at noon Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Glenn Hamilton officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
