HUBERT MCGOWEN

PUXICO -- Funeral service for Hubert L. "Dude" McGowen of Puxico will be held at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church near here. The Revs. Rowland Duckett and David Hill will officiate, with burial in Duck Creek Cemetery.

McGowen, 77, died Sunday, April 14, 1996, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born Nov. 29, 1918, at Bernie, son of William Andrew and Mezella Jane Craft McGowen. He and Wilma Arcena Allen were married Dec. 5, 1940, in Poplar Bluff.

McGowen served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and served as deacon and Sunday School superintendent many years.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Sam McGowen of Mascoutah, Ill., Jim McGowen of Cape Girardeau, Terry McGowen of Puxico; three brothers, Lewis and Cecil McGowen of Dudley, Thomas McGowen of Puxico; a sister, Lila Midgett of Dudley; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
