TAMMS, Ill. -- Funeral service for Howard Taft Cox of Tamms will be held at 1 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms. The Revs. Kenneth Johnson and Jim Keller will officiate, with burial in St. John's Cemetery.

Cox, 85, died Tuesday, April 4, 1995, at his home.

He was born May 26, 1909, in Delta, Ill., son of Charles B. and Iva Abercrombie Cox. He and Zethel Vick were married Jan. 25, 1928. She died July 25, 1987.

Cox was a retired engineer with GM&O Railroad. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Tamms, and Caledonia Lodge 47 AF&AM in Pulaski.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlene Powles of Tamms; a son, William Cox of Edwardsville; two sisters, Jewell Hastings of Shreveport, La., Celeste Burton of St. Louis; seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.
