Howard Pender

Howard E. Pender, 71, of Scott City died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born May 25, 1934, in Catron, Mo., son of John Ray and Pearl Worley Pender. He and Betty Murphy were married May 20, 1952, in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Pender worked 19 years in the maintenance department of Cape Girardeau schools, and was a truck driver more than 20 years for Robinson Lumber in Cape Girardeau. He attended First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Pender of Scott City; three sons, James Pender and wife Rhonda of Benton, Mo., Allen Pender and wife Margaret of Scott City, Barry Pender and wife Stephanie of Jackson; a daughter, Jean Deimund and husband Robert of St. Peters, Mo.; a brother, Paul Pender of Millersville; two sisters, Goldie Benefield of Cape Girardeau, Jerry Sue Underwood of Oak Ridge; seven grandchildren, Aaron Pender of Benton, Brian Pender and wife Kristen of Cape Girardeau, Chad Pender of Benton, Lawrence Pender of Scott City, Kyle Pender of Patton, Mo., Melissa Deimund and Nicholas Deimund of St. Peters.

Also surviving are two stepgrandchildren, Derek DeSpain and wife Barbi of Millersville, Chad DeSpain and wife Emily of Oak Ridge; a great-grandchild, Alyssa Pender of Cape Girardeau; three great-stepgrandchildren, Ethan DeSpain of Millersville, Montana and Bristol DeSpain of Oak Ridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Nelson and Larry Pender.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mike Shupert officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
