Howard D. Friese, 89, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born July 17, 1922, in Sedgewickville, Mo., son of Ira M. and Ella Statler Friese. He and Lucille Crader were married May 22, 1960, at Sedgewickville Lutheran Church.

Howard attended the former Sedgewickville Grade School and graduated from the former Patton High School in 1939.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1942 and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1944.

Howard graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1958, receiving a master's degree in agriculture. He then worked for Doane Agriculture Service in St. Louis. In 1961 he began working as an appraiser for Missouri Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985. After moving to Cape Girardeau in 2006, he became a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.

Loving survivors include his wife of 51 years, Lucille; and a son, Jim Friese of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from noon until time of service Friday at St. Mark Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. S. Michael Malone officiating. Interment will be in Sargent's Chapel Cemetery near Sedgewickville, with military honors to be conducted.

McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorials be made to St. Mark Building and Improvement Fund or the charity of choice.
