The funeral for Howard Franklin Barnes of Cape Girardeau will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. David E. Schaffner will officiate. Burial will be in St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery at Fruitland.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. today.
Barnes, 66, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at his home.
He was born March 29, 1936, in Atlanta, Ga., son of Howard E. and Velma Harrelson Barnes. He and Elda Petzoldt Scholl were married Feb. 14, 1993.
Barnes was formerly of Colorado Springs, Colo., moving to Cape Girardeau in 1992. He had worked in the Environmental Services Department at Southeast Missouri Hospital, and retired from Nell Holcomb School in 1998. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1955 to 1964.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, David Barnes of Jonesboro, Ark., Jay Barnes of Prescott, Wis., Robert Barnes of Washington, D.C., Warren Barnes of Pennsylvania; two daughters, Cindy States of Oklahoma City, Okla., Janet Hutsler of Indiana; four stepsons, Dan and Sam Scholl of Cape Girardeau, Andy Scholl of Riverside, Calif., John Scholl of Ventura, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Debra Lewis of Cape Girardeau, Marti Ryan of Oxford, Miss.; 14 grandchildren; and nine stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
