Howard Lester Aslinger, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at his home.
He was born June 20, 1940, in Millersville, son of Lester Earl and Nola Sanora Tinnin Aslinger. He and Carol Jean Phillips were married Oct. 4, 1969.
Howard enjoyed serving his community by being involved in Jaycees, Rotary and coaching his girls and others in softball, basketball and soccer. He was a great influence on many people young and old.
He enjoyed traveling, playing Phase 10, his cat (Kitty) and doing crossword puzzles. His greatest joys were his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
He retired in July 2007 from American Family Insurance after 32 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; three daughters, Shelley Aslinger (fiance Cory Kirchhoff) of St. Peters, Mo., Karri Clippard and Kimberly Kelpe (Bryan) of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Logan Rae Clippard of Jackson, Maddison Elayne "Maddie," John David "JD," Abigail Nicole "Abbie" Clippard and Kenyan Ace Kelpe of Cape Girardeau.
Also two sisters, Bonnie Smith of Jackson, Anna Mungle (Jerry) of Patton, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Keith Phillips (Cindya) of Arkansas; and four sisters-in-law, Ruth Ann Boxdorfer (Richard) of Illinois, Mary Phillips of Texas, Linda Kay Schubert (Timothy) of Perryville, Mo., and Pamela Holt (Bill) of Sedgewickville, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma; and two brothers-in-law, Charles Smith and Michael Phillips.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
