MOUNDS, Ill. -- Hortense Zanone Sullivan, 89, of Sullivan's Three Lakes, Mounds, passed away at 4:16 a.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at her home with her children at her side.
Hortense was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Little Rock, Ark., daughter of the late Louis Zanone and Mary Casey Zanone.
On Oct, 2, 1941, in Missouri she married Fred Larue Sullivan Jr., who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Louis Anthony Sullivan and Mickey Sullivan; a sister, Patricia Beeler; a brother, Robert Zanone; and lifelong friends Gerry Gibson and Carolyn Bourland.
Hortense was a retired medtech at the Anna State Hospital and Lehning's Drugstore in Cairo, Ill. She was founder of the Mounds Junior Women's Club, past president of the Women's Club, past president of St. Ann's Sodality and past president of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City, Ill.
She was known for her wonderful cooking and sewing abilities, along with her wit and love of life.
Survivors include two daughters and two sons, Bobbie Kay (Wayne) Hale of Foley, Ala., Geri Sue (Al) Severs of Christopher, Ill., Pat Sullivan of Foley, Ala., and Tony (Karen) Elder of Mounds; sisters-in-law, Margaret Knight of Boynton Beach, Fla., Nellie (Al) Moss Sr. of Jackson, Ted (Dee) Sullivan of Catlin, Ill., and Lynn Larue (Philip) Parker of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Len (Courtney) Severs, Nick Severs, Heidi (Clint) Mayer, Ashlee (Dr. Joe) Byrne, Hayley (Trent) Hudgens, Dustin Severs and Andrew (Ashley) Elder; nine great-grandchildren, Allie Storey and Christian Mayer, Madi and Emily Severs, Karson Severs, Demi Cantrell, Scout Hudgens and Joseph Byrne; three great-great grandchildren, Jackson and Brady Elder and Cam Myer.
Graveside memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Villa Ridge, Ill., with family friend Tommy Miller officiating and interment following.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery before the services Tuesday.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Notre Dame Regional High School, 265 Notre Dame Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, or to the Egyptian Country Club Ladies Golf Association, 4880 US Highway 51 Mounds, IL 62964 in memory of Hortense Sullivan.
