Homer Welta Rood, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center. He was born July 29, 1907, in Braceville, Ohio, son of Welta Trace and Ruth Maltbie Rood. He and Kathryn Elizabeth Hurd were married July 12, 1933, in Hiram, Ohio. She died Dec. 13, 1998...

Homer Welta Rood, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

He was born July 29, 1907, in Braceville, Ohio, son of Welta Trace and Ruth Maltbie Rood. He and Kathryn Elizabeth Hurd were married July 12, 1933, in Hiram, Ohio. She died Dec. 13, 1998.

Rood sold aluminum products to the automotive industry in Detroit, Mich., most of his working life. He moved to Carbondale, Ill., in 1989 from Northbrook, Ill., and to Cape Girardeau in 1995. He was a member of Disciples of Christ Church in Hiram, and the Masons in Garrettsville, Ohio.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Richard Brooks of Carbondale; a granddaughter, Susan Arntsen of Glenview, Ill.; two grandsons, Scott Brooks of Carbondale, Mark Brooks of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandsons, Ryan Brooks and Trevor Brooks of Carbondale; and a great-granddaughter, Taylor Brooks of Carbondale.

Service and burial will be held at Hiram in June.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
