BLOOMFIELD -- Funeral service for Homer Mize will be held at 2 p.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home. The Rev. Hank Foster will officiate, with burial in Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.

Mize, 96, died Saturday, April 19, 1997, at Dexter Memorial Hospital in Dexter.

He was born June 20, 1900, in Strawberry, Ark., son of Henry and Cornelia Mize. He and Virgie Pinkston were married in 1926. She died July 5, 1994.

Mize moved to Avert in 1949 from Earth, Texas. The couple owned and operated Mize Grocery until 1993.

Survivors include a son, Homer Mize of St. Louis; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.
