NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Homer C. Davis, 96, a resident of Naperville since July 2008, formerly of Tacoma, Wash., died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Homer C. Davis, 96, a resident of Naperville since July 2008, formerly of Tacoma, Wash., died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.

He was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Crosstown, Mo., son of John and Esther Davis. He and Norma Jean Carter were married Aug. 13, 1941

Homer is survived by a son, Michael (Mary) Davis of Naperville; three grandchildren, Michael, Kristin and Kathleen; six siblings, Vera, Henry, Percy, Lillie, Lillian, Melva; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and five siblings, Amos, James, Mildred, John and Zeta.

Homer grew up in Missouri and enlisted in the U.S. Army, Troop B 13th Mounted Cavalry prior to World War II and later served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Army Air Corps/Air Force stationed in the Far East and Europe. He started his military career as a horseshoer and ended it as a jet engine mechanic when retiring in 1962.

He was a 40-year veteran of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and worked 15 years in Pierce County in Tacoma. He was an avid gardener and loved to hunt and fish.

Service and interment were private.

Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home in Naperville was in charge of arrangements.
