CAIRO, Ill. -- Hiram F. Ethridge, 89, of Clinton, Iowa, and formerly of Cairo, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 1995, at the Clinton Retirement Center.
He was born Kuttawa, Ky., on July 3, 1906, to Fred and Mary Tolar Ethridge. He was married to Catherine Ethridge, who died in 1983.
He was a retired employee of Illinois Central Railroad and Cairo High School. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Frances Knight of Clinton; two sons, Ron Ethridge of Cairo and James E. Ethridge of New Lennox, Ill.; three sisters, Iola Barnett of Beardstown, Ill., Lucille Ethridge of Buncombe, Ill., Marie Hortshorn of Abilene, Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday after 5 p.m. at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The Holy Rosary will be recited in the funeral home chapel at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Villa Ridge.
