CHARLESTON -- Hines Offord, 80, of Charleston died Monday, Feb. 5, 1996, at the VA Medical Center in Marion, Ill. He was born Dec. 12, 1915, in Lexington, Miss., son of Will and Lottie Tidwell Offord. He and Thelma Ivy were married Oct. 5, 1951. Offord had lived in Charleston since 1984. He was a member and associate elder of Holy Trinity Church of Deliverance. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II...

CHARLESTON -- Hines Offord, 80, of Charleston died Monday, Feb. 5, 1996, at the VA Medical Center in Marion, Ill.

He was born Dec. 12, 1915, in Lexington, Miss., son of Will and Lottie Tidwell Offord. He and Thelma Ivy were married Oct. 5, 1951.

Offord had lived in Charleston since 1984. He was a member and associate elder of Holy Trinity Church of Deliverance. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dennis Offord of St. Louis, Don Offord of Osaka, Japan, David Offord of Charleston, Tony Offord of Bronx, N.Y.; three daughters, Verlyn Haynes and Terri Moore of St. Louis, Francine Horton of Charleston; two brothers, Charley Offord of Indianapolis, Ind., Cal Offord of Chicago; a sister, Susie Hitchcock of Chicago; 17 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. Friday.

Funeral service will be at noon Saturday at Opportunity Church of God In Christ, with Bishop James Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at National Cemetery in Mounds, Ill.
