ESSEX -- Funeral service for Hildegard "Helen" Gottliebe Barber of Essex will be held at 11 a.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter. Pastor Ken Krippner and the Rev. Doyle Corlew will officiate, with burial in Essex Cemetery.
Barber, 61, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 1996, at Doctors Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
She was born Aug. 11, 1935, in Neidenberg, Germany, daughter of Walter and Berta Kossman Buttner. She and James C. Barber were married May 18, 1956, in Fountainbleau, France.
Barber had lived in the Essex area since 1972. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church at Dexter, life member of American Ex-Prisoners of War, member of Bootheel Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War, and National Arbor Day Foundation.
Survivors include her husband; six daughters, Ingrid Williamson, Christine Barber, Kathy Jones and Patty May of Dexter, Susan Barber and Peggy Evans of Essex; four brothers, Horst Buttner of Bad Munstereifel, Germany, Heinz, Walter and Helmut Buttner of Euskirchen, Germany; and six grandchildren.
