SIKESTON -- Hershel Lee Riggs, 83, of Sikeston died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born July 8, 1916, in Cotton Plant, Ark., son of Timothy and Clara Quinn Riggs. He married Ruby Chandler, who died in 1945. He later married Mattie L. Woods Sept. 26, 1946.
Riggs was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and had served as a deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, trustees board, and Christian Liberty District Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Willie and Hershel Riggs Jr. of Toledo, Ohio; five daughters, Sue Ella Marble and missionary Gearlene Luttrell of Sikeston, evangelist Beatrice Walker of Jackson, Tenn., missionary Lee Alice Bishop of Toledo, D'Ann Davis of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, the Rev. Willie Riggs of Doddridge, Ark.; 31 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Church. The Rev. Flem E. Bronner and J.C. Marshall will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church Saturday from noon until service time.
