MATTHEWS, Mo. -- Herschel W. Yates Sr., 90, of Minneapolis, Minn., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, in Minneapolis.
He was born Oct. 6, 1910, in Auxvasse, Mo., son of Henry Herschel and Martha Wilson Yates. He married Gertrude Wilson, who preceded him in death.
A longtime resident of Matthews, he had been a high school teacher, farmer, and Methodist minister. He had lived in Minneapolis since 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Herschel Yates Jr. of Minneapolis, Marshall Yates of Arlington, Va.; two sisters, Jane Gardner of Houston, Texas, Mary Jensen of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, Mo., from 5-7 p.m. Saturday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church in Matthews. Wilson Yates will officiate. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
