BENTON--Herman "Shorty" Slinkard, 81, of Benton died Sunday, June 11, 1995, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Aug. 2, 1913, at Oran, the son of Early J. and Eliza Roberts Slinkard. He and Hattie Cook were married Oct. 21, 1939, in Oran. She survives of the home.

Slinkard was a farmer in the Benton and Blodgett area. He also owned Slinkard and Sons Blacksmith shop in Benton. He was a deacon at the Unity Baptist Church in Benton, a member of the Benton Chamber of Commerce and the Local Iron Workers Union 272 in Paducah, Ky.

Other survivors include two sons, Louis Slinkard of High Ridge and Frank Slinkard of Glen Carbon, Ill.; a brother, Wayland Slinkard of New Prague, Minn.; a sister, Della Johnson of Vanduser; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today and from 8-9 a.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Benton or from 10-11 a.m. at United Baptist Church in Benton, where funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Dale Huff will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
