MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Herman "Red" Scheiding, 92, of Murphysboro died Monday, April 28, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born Sept. 19, 1910, in Kankakee County, son of Herman and Marie Scheiding. He and Dora Mae Rich were married in 1932. She died in 1967. He later married Ameda Jackson.

Scheiding was formerly of Kankakee and Villa Ridge, Ill. He was an automobile mechanic 42 years in Chicago and Kankakee. He was active in Boy Scouts, was an Explorer Post leader and member of Order of the Arrow.

Survivors include two sons, Herman Scheiding Jr. of San Jose, Calif., Randall Scheiding of Murphysboro; a daughter, Dolores Render-Duncan of Urbana, Ill.; three stepsons, Dallas Jackson of Mounds, Ill., Dennis and Warren Nehls of Kankakee; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse, Ill.

Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel in Murphysboro is in charge of arrangements.
