PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Herman J. Kiefer, 78, of Perryville died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at his home. He was born May 31, 1931, in Perry County, Mo., son of Herman C. and Bernice Zahner Kiefer. Mr. Kiefer was owner/operator of Kiefer Building Supply in Perryville. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and American Legion Post 133. PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Herman J. Kiefer, 78, of Perryville died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at his home.

He was born May 31, 1931, in Perry County, Mo., son of Herman C. and Bernice Zahner Kiefer.

Mr. Kiefer was owner/operator of Kiefer Building Supply in Perryville. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and American Legion Post 133. He was a musician with several groups in the area many years.

He served in the National Guard.

Survivors include two sons, Shane (Diane) Kiefer of Salina, Kan., Cody (Erica) Kiefer of Perryville; a daughter, Kayla (Tony) Stewart of Steeleville, Ill.; a brother, Everett Kiefer of Perryville; 11 grandchildren, Apryl, Matthew, Nicholas, Christopher, Josh, Lindsay, Josh, Kaitlin, Destany, Preston, Allison; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Jayden, Brian Allen II and Kally.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, five sisters and a grandchild, Heath Kiefer.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday at Miller Family Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 Monday. The rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Milton Ryan will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with graveside military honors courtesy of American Legion Post 133.

Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
