HERMAN J. PONDER SR.

PERRYVILLE -- Herman J. Ponder Sr., 84, of Perryville, died Friday, April 16, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 8, 1909, at Perry County, son of Joseph and Josephine Schneider Ponder.

He married Cardula Winschel, Sept. 23, 1930.

Ponder worked as a custodian for Apple Creek Parish.

He was a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church and a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Herman J. Ponder Jr. of St. Louis, Donald C. Ponder of St. Louis, Glennon H. Ponder of St. Louis, Francis N. Ponder of St. Marys, Mo., David L. Ponder of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Mary C. Dippold of Perryville, Dorothy Ponder of Perryville, Jane Baer of Perryville; 27 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, four sisters and a granddaughter.

Friends may call 4-9 p.m. today, and from 6:30-11 a.m. Monday, at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. Parish and Knights of Columbus wake services will be held at 7 p.m. today.

Funeral mass will be at 11:15 a.m. Monday at the St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Sam Mages officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.
