HERBERT STEINBECKER

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Herbert B. Steinbecker, 88, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Perry County Nursing Home.

He was born May 14, 1912, at Belgique, Mo., son of Peter and Pauline Modde Steinbecker. He and Barbara C. Bauwens were married July 26, 1934, at Belgique. She died Sept. 19, 1986.

Herb was a self-employed livestock dealer all his adult life, until retiring in the late 1980s. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

He was a tough pitch player and many considered him hard to beat. He will always be remembered as a teacher of his profession and a true role model for his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all of those who loved and respected him so much.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Buchheit of Perryville; two sons, Neil and David Steinbecker of Perryville; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 6:30-10:50 a.m. Wednesday.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be sent to St. Vincent Endowment Fund or St. Vincent Education Foundation.
