Herbert Morie

Herbert V. Morie, 80, of Scott City passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee, Mo., where he had lived the past three weeks.

He was born Nov. 22, 1929, in New Hamburg, Mo., to Mike and Mayme Horrell Morie. He and Loretta Heise were married in 1952. She passed away in 1975. He and Esther Graden-Turner were married June 6, 1998.

Herbert was a graduate of the former St. Mary's High School in Cape Girardeau.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.

While residing in St. Charles, Mo., he attended Borromeo Catholic Church, and worked 32 years as a radar technician for the former McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, retiring in 1987.

He especially enjoyed building electronics, even making his parents' first television. His other hobbies included woodworking, auto mechanics and stained glass.

Herb's surviving family includes his loving wife of nearly 12 years, Esther of Scott City; four children, Herb (Michelle) Morie II of St. Charles, Mo., Dale Morie of Buchanan, Tenn., Judy (Tom) Mayer of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jeani (Tom) Wiethop of Bristow, Va.; three siblings, John (the late Ruby) Morie of Arnold, Mo., Dorothy (Bernard) Kluesner of Cape Girardeau, Larry (Carol) Morie of Jackson; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Esther's family includes three children, David (Marilyn) Turner of Jackson, Dennis (Gina) Turner of Peoria, Ill., Douglas Turner of Jackson; a son-in-law, Gary (the late Karen) King of Jackson; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

The service was private at Salem Cemetery near Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.

Arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Salem Cemetery or Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
