ORAN, Mo. -- Herbert Joseph Hahn, 95, of Oran died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Dec. 13, 1911, at Caney Creek, Mo., son of Joseph and Mary Barbara Gosche Hahn. He and Verneda Marietta Pobst were married May 3, 1941. She died April 9, 2000...

ORAN, Mo. -- Herbert Joseph Hahn, 95, of Oran died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 13, 1911, at Caney Creek, Mo., son of Joseph and Mary Barbara Gosche Hahn. He and Verneda Marietta Pobst were married May 3, 1941. She died April 9, 2000.

Hahn was a farmer in the Oran area. He was a lifelong member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church and member of Knights of Columbus Council 4311.

He was pitcher and cleanup hitter for the Caney Tigers baseball team from 1926 to 1940. He was inducted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Morris and David Hahn of Oran; a daughter, Karla Essner of Kelso, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call after 4:30 p.m. Friday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. The parish rosary will be at 7, and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:15.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Guardian Angel Church, with the Revs. John Harth and Normand Varone officiating. Burial will be in Guardian Angel Cemetery.
