ANNA, Ill. -- Herbert L. Garris Sr., 63, of Anna died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at his home.
He was born Nov. 30, 1934, in Perry County, Mo., son of Beckford and Bessie Crowder Garris. He and Beverly Bequeret were married Dec. 9, 1955.
Garris was a painting contractor 26 years and owned and operated H&B Garris Painting. He was a member of Canteen Baptist Church at Canteen, Kiwanis Club in Anna, and Shawnee Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rebecca Garris-Witt of Shelby, Mich., Kathleen Green of Jackson, Mo.; a son, Herbert Garris Jr. of Vienna; three sisters, Virginia Beehler of Franklin, Tenn., Judy Meehan of Granite City, Doris Kaplan of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Glenn Garris of Mt. Olive; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna from 6-8 p.m. today, and Saturday until service time.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Herb Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
