ARBOR -- Henry "Doc" James, 94, of Arbor, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 1995, at Advance Nursing Center in Advance.
He was born Aug. 30, 1901, in Bollinger County, son of John and Laura Masters James. He and Annie F. James were married Sept. 11, 1921, in Bollinger County. She died in November 1964. He later married Pearl Kilburn Dec. 28, 1970, who died in 1989.
James started a blacksmith business in Bollinger County at the age of 17. He was a census taker in the 1930s, then worked as a tool and die operator and machinist. He moved to Arbor in 1958 where he owned and operated a blacksmith shop until retiring in 1966.
He was president of the Southeast Missouri Singing Convention and member of Sunlite Quartet.
Survivors include three sons, John James of Delta, Charles James of Chaffee, Hadley James of Kankakee, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and a grandson.
Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Arzie Long officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
