Henry Azuma, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at his home. He was a professor of sociology and statistics at Southeast Missouri State University for 32 years after receiving his Bachelor of Arts at Kentucky Wesleyan College and his Master of Arts and doctorate from Louisiana State University. Henry Azuma, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at his home.

He was a professor of sociology and statistics at Southeast Missouri State University for 32 years after receiving his Bachelor of Arts at Kentucky Wesleyan College and his Master of Arts and doctorate from Louisiana State University. He truly enjoyed teaching and was a faculty adviser for Beta Psi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega.

Henry also served on various community advisory boards, was a leader of Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 2 and was a youth soccer coach for many years.

He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, exploring the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Loving survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kay Azuma; son, Jason Akira (Anne Light) Azuma; daughter, Gina Marie Azuma (Kevin) Cox; two brothers, Steven Akira (Elaine) Azuma and Paul Morihiko Azuma; sister, Joyce Haru Azuma (Mark) Hanson; and two grandchildren, Olivia Mariko Azuma and Samuel Morihiko Cox.

Henry was preceded in death by his father, Mike Morihiko Azuma, and mother, Annie Misako Azuma.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 24, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at noon Saturday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family for a memorial tree or SEMOPets.org.
