Helen Marie Schlegel, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born June 20, 1916, in Tell City, Ind., daughter of Curt and Mattie Thompson McDaniel. She and Elmer L. Schlegel were married Dec. 9, 1937. He died Feb. 21, 1957.
Mrs. Schlegel was a graduate of Bell City High School. She had been a cook for a barge line, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen L. and Thomas West of Gore, Okla., Brenda L. and Jerry Stauber of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Ivy Cossou of Gordonville; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Keesee of Cape Girardeau, Faye Schott of Perkins, Mo.; two brothers, Chester McDaniel of St. Louis, and Harold McDaniel of Delta.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Doug Breite officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
