JACKSON, Mo. -- Mrs. Helen E. Newman, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001, at her home in the Saxony Village Assisted Living at the Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Newman was born Feb. 1, 1908, in Herrin, Ill., the daughter of the late Thomas and Grace Logan Rendleman. She married Mr. Everett L. Newman Sept. 1, 1928, and he passed away Oct. 11, 1983.
Mr. and Mrs. Newman owned and operated the former Newman Body and Fender Shop in Cape Girardeau for a number of years. They later moved to California and returned to reside in Jackson in 1968.
She graduated from Cobden High School. She resided at the Jackson Villa in Jackson for a number of years and in November 2000 moved to the Saxony Village. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson, where she was a member of the JOY Choir, taught Sunday school and was a life member of the WMU. She was also a lifetime member of the PTA in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by three sons and daughters in-law, David and Sadie Newman of San Clemente, Calif., Richard and Ann Newman of Mesa, Colo., and Howard and Catherine Newman of Klamath Falls, Ore.; four daughters and three sons in-law, Shirley and Keith Seabaugh of Jackson, Betty and Ted Johnston of Pond, Mo.; Gwyn Elaine and Jerry Poston of Cape Girardeau, and Margaret Herly of Orange, Calif.; four brothers, Paul Rendleman of Louisville, Ky., Carroll Rendleman of Sturgis, Ky., Glynn Rendleman of Yucaipe, Calif., and Bill Rendleman of Whitehall, Ill.; four sisters, Margeret Brown of Canoga Park, Calif., LaWanda Cummins of Springfield, Ill., Madge Sill of Carbondale, Ill., and Peggy Weiss of Florissant, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson with funeral services at 10 a.m. Wedenesday at the funeral home. Dr. Brian Anderson will officiate with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the WMU of the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
