JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Helen Krebs Montgomery, 90, of Jefferson City, formerly of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at St. Joseph Bluffs in Jefferson City, where she had lived for the past five years.
She was born Jan. 17, 1927, in St. Louis, the daughter of the late Sedwic "Ted" Krebs and the late Mary (Blanchard) Krebs.
She grew up in Mokane, Missouri, and was united in marriage to Ralph Montgomery on May 11, 1946. They were married for 61 years prior to his passing June 25, 2007.
Helen graduated from Mokane High School in 1944. After graduating, she worked in the office of the Fulton Shoe Factory while waiting for Ralph to return from the war.
After they married, they lived in Mokane. In 1958, they moved to Jackson, where she was a busy mom and homemaker, active in church and scouting. They remained in Jackson for 15 years before returning to Mokane.
She worked at both the Steedman Bank and Summit Bank before retiring.
She was a member of the Mokane United Methodist Church, having joined the same day as her husband in 1939. She was also a member of Mokane United Methodist Women.
She enjoyed reading, fishing and working in her beautiful flower gardens.
Most of all, she loved spending time with family.
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by one son, Jim (Becky) Montgomery of Austin, Texas; three daughters, Karen (Wayne) Turley of Jackson, Debby (Bob) Lohman of Jackson and Jan (Myles) Smart of Tebbetts, Missouri; one sister, Dora Smart of Wentzville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Rachel Jefferson of Eugene, Oregon, Claire Montgomery of Austin, Nathan Turley of Jackson, McKenzie Walter of St. Louis, Nick and Colby Lohman of Jackson, Kaci Smart of Columbia, Missouri, and Keli Smart of St. Louis; 11 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Marilyn Baumhoer of Jefferson City and Carolyn Eden of Innsbrook, Missouri; and other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri, with Pastor Jim Mueller officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Steedman Cemetery.
