Helen Marie Benson, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born Aug. 2, 1912, in Jackson, daughter of Alphonso and Carrie Brown Lacey. She and Clyde Lee Benson were married Nov. 8, 1943. He died June 6, 1972.
Mrs. Benson was a member of St. James AME Church and served as the former church clerk and youth director. She was also a member of Successful Homemakers Club and Golden Age Club.
Survivors include a son, Clyde Benson Jr., of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Genevia Hayes, of Cape Girardeau; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 22, 1999 at St. James AME Church, with the Rev. David Allen Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
Friends may call at the church from noon until service time.
Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
