Helen Louise Long, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 30, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born March 7, 1931, in Red Bud, Ill., to Paul August and Esther L. Plate Heumann. She and Carl William Long were married in 1977 in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death in 2008.
Long graduated from Red Bud High School. She attended Southeast Missouri State University and the University of Oklahoma, where she received a bachelor of arts degree, majoring in English. She was an executive assistant many years at the corporate headquarters of St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad in St. Louis.
Survivors include a stepson, Ronald James Long of Houston; seven grandchildren, Justin, Daniel, Katelyn, Evan and Olivia Long, all of Houston, Conrad and Stuart Higgerson of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Friends may call 10 a.m. to service time Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
