SIKESTON -- Grace Helen Childs, 75, of Sikeston died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at her home, following an extended illness. She was born Aug. 30, 1921, at Morehouse, daughter of D.L. and Grace Powell Fisher. Childs was a 1939 graduate of Sikeston High School, and a 1943 graduate of Duke University in Chapel Hill, N.C. She was an interpreter for the U.S. Army in Tucson., Ariz., during World War II...

SIKESTON -- Grace Helen Childs, 75, of Sikeston died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at her home, following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 30, 1921, at Morehouse, daughter of D.L. and Grace Powell Fisher.

Childs was a 1939 graduate of Sikeston High School, and a 1943 graduate of Duke University in Chapel Hill, N.C. She was an interpreter for the U.S. Army in Tucson., Ariz., during World War II.

She received a degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1963. She taught fifth grade at Morehouse School, and had operated a Tastee Freeze in Costa Mesa, Calif., several years.

Childs was a member of Rauch-Spence Memorial United Methodist Church at Morehouse.

Survivors include three sons, Mark Childs Jr. of Springfield, Raymond Childs of Morehouse, Roger Childs of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Jane Taylor of Sikeston; a sister, Betty Medbourn of Morehouse; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel after noon Wednesday.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with Mark and Roger Childs officiating. Entombment will be later at Fisher Mausoleum in Logansport, Ind.
