Helen C. Matthews, 86, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Dec. 17, 1905, in Decatur, Ill., daughter of John and Clara Walker VanGundy. She and Guy B. Matthews were married July 25, 1925, in Cape Girardeau. He died Nov. 17, 1958...

Helen C. Matthews, 86, of Cape Girardeau, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Dec. 17, 1905, in Decatur, Ill., daughter of John and Clara Walker VanGundy. She and Guy B. Matthews were married July 25, 1925, in Cape Girardeau. He died Nov. 17, 1958.

Matthews was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Vandeven of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Gazebo, with the Rev. Neil Stein officiating.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-6 p.m. today.
