Helen L. Allen, 93, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
She was born Aug. 4, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Joseph Jackson and Zora Anderson Askew. She married Curtis A. Allen on April 4, 1943, in Greenville, Missouri.
Helen received a teachers certificate from Southeast Missouri State University and taught several years in the area. She moved with her family in 1948 to Rockford. Helen was a member of Elim Baptist Church. She loved to bowl and do ceramics. She worked as a bookkeeper at National Lock and retired from Joseph Behr & Sons.
Shortly after retiring, she and her husband moved to Clermont, Florida, and enjoyed various card games and swimming. Helen moved back to Rockford in 2012, to be with family.
She is survived by a son, C. Vic (JoAnn) Allen; grandchildren, Corey J. Allen and Lisa (Dan) Pass; and great-grandchildren, Alexis Allen, Mackenzie Pass and Christopher Pass.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Bill and Ken Askew; a sister, Imogene Withrow; and half brother and half sister, Joseph and Mary Opal.
Service will be in Cape Girardeau at a later date.
