SIKESTON, Mo. -- Hazel Marie Douglas West, 84, of Schertz, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas. She was born Jan. 19, 1919, at Matthews, Mo., daughter of Charles and LeLia Marie Detye Hardin. She first married Franklin Willard Douglas Nov. 2, 1935. He died Jan. 24, 1987. She and Elmer West were married June 3, 1989. He died in December 1994...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Hazel Marie Douglas West, 84, of Schertz, Texas, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas.

She was born Jan. 19, 1919, at Matthews, Mo., daughter of Charles and LeLia Marie Detye Hardin. She first married Franklin Willard Douglas Nov. 2, 1935. He died Jan. 24, 1987. She and Elmer West were married June 3, 1989. He died in December 1994.

West had worked in marketing at Stix-Baer and Fuller Department Stores in St. Louis.

She moved to Sikeston in 1992 from St. Charles, Mo., and to Schertz in 1998. She attended First Baptist Church in Schertz and its Rebekah Sunday School Class. She was a former member of Eastern Star Chapter 64 in Webster Groves, Mo.

Survivors include a son, Carl Douglas of Schertz; a daughter, Delores Szabo of Oxnard, Calif.; a stepson, Maurice West of O'Fallon, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Camille West of House Springs, Mo.; a brother, William Hardin of Hayti, Mo.; two sisters, Darlene DeWeiss of Princeton, W.Va., Charlotte Watkins of Hayti; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call Saturday at Blanchard Funeral Chapel from 10 a.m. until service time.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Carl Addison officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery in East Prairie, Mo.
