Hazel Juanita Sexton, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, at the Lutheran Home, with two of her daughters by her side.

She was born Oct. 28, 1922, in Van Buren, Arkansas, to Charles and Sarah Wood. She and Roy Melvin "Red" Sexton were married June 25, 1938.

They moved to a farm near Oran, Missouri, in 1941. They had four sons and six daughters, who kept her quite busy; she still helped in the cotton field when she could. In 1965 they moved near Metropolis, Illinois; then in 1990 she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to be near her four youngest children. By 2001 she was in early stages of dementia and moved back home to Missouri.

She very much enjoyed being outdoors walking in the woods, riding in the country or just sitting on the porch watching cars go by. But that was only after the cleaning, cooking, mending, etc. was done! Yes, she worked hard, played a bit, and was always willing to help friends and neighbors any way she could.

Survivors include seven children, Claude (Joyce) Sexton of Chaffee, Missouri, Ann (Elvis) Underwood of Cape Girardeau, Charles Sexton of Sikeston, Missouri, Mary Frances (Mark) Johnson of Spencer, Wisconsin, Judy (Mike) Childers of Metropolis, Sherry Wilkens of Cape Girardeau and Donna (Keith) Neely of Nashville; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Clara Wood of Porterville, California.
