Hazel E. Fiehler, 92, went to meet her heavenly father Monday, March 8, 2010, at Chateau Girardeau Nursing Center.

She was born June 6, 1917, in Whitewater, to Leo and Nancy Proffer Steckler. She and the Rev. Fred E. Kelley were married Oct. 1, 1936.

She assisted with his Methodist ministry in Trout, La., as well as in Wyatt, Oran, Gordonville, Bell City and Clarkton, Mo. They were married nearly 42 years when he passed away Aug. 6, 1978.

God later blessed Hazel with another wonderful husband, Rupert F. Fiehler, on Nov. 26, 1984.

They selflessly offered their time volunteering at Jackson Senior Center and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson. They are members of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and former members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. The couple resided 18 years at Chateau Girardeau, where they have received excellent care.

Hazel and Rupert celebrated 25 years of marriage last November. Known by her family and friends as MeMe, Hazel was a kind and loving Christian wife, mother and grandmother. She will truly be missed.
